SUMMARY:Understanding (your) research metrics
DESCRIPTION:Generally speaking for researchers\, the availability of metrics depends on your research output being available online. Individual researchers might use metrics as evidence for job or grant applications or to inform a publication and communication strategy. Beyond personal interest\, research metrics are used to rank and to benchmark universities and to drive policy and funding decisions. \nThis workshop will give an overview of different research metric and address the need for responsible metrics\, by putting these traditional and next generation metrics in context by discussing their benefits and limitations. This will include a demonstration on how to use InCites to monitor more traditional research metrics and Altmetric Explorer to provide research metrics on all types of research output. \nAdditionally\, we will demonstrate the tools to increase your research visibility like ORCID. ORCID is an unique author identifier that helps researchers to distinguish themselves and their work from that of other researchers. In this workshop\, researchers can take the opportunity to register for an ORCID identifier\, to update their ORCID iD and to explore the options for ORCID integration in the Academic Bibliography of Ghent University (‘Biblio’) and other tools (such as Publons and Scopus iD). \nWe will also tackle the importance of correctly affiliating Ghent University and/or Ghent University Hospital for research visibility. \nIn conclusion\, research that is (openly) available\, will be accessible to more people and will\, therefore\, have a greater impact. The workshop will assist you in raising the awareness of the importance of your research metrics and increasing visibility of your research. \nLanguage: English \nObjectives of the course: \n\nDuring this course\, the participant will learn the importance of correctly affiliating\nThe course will assist the participant in increasing visibility of their research\n\n\nFormat: online interactive session – 1h \nRegistration: More info and sign up \nTeacher: Greet Wieme (Information specialist – Knowledge Center for Health Ghent)
