SUMMARY:Predatory practices in academic publishing\, focused on health sciences
DESCRIPTION:Every researcher who wants to publish research results\, faces so called predatory publishing. These are publication venues that claim to be legitimate scholarly open access journals\, but misrepresent their publishing practices. Because there is a wide spectrum from genuinely fraudulent and deceitful practices to questionable and unethical practices\, we rather speak of predatory practices instead of predatory journals. \nIn this session we want to identify the predatory practices\, analyse how and why they occur\, and what you can do to avoid them. \nSome elements of the training: \n\nidentify predatory practices\npitfalls in academic publishing\nthe the sense and nonsense of black and white lists: how to assess the quality of a journal?\nupdate our publication strategy\nglobal initiatives explained\n\n  \nThis session is organsied by KCGG and the Open Science team\, and is targeted at researchers in health sciences. \nRegistration: https://event.ugent.be/registration/predatory20250520
